The community homestay started 2 years ago, has attracted many domestic and international tourists to Ramkot village of Syangja district. The locals are very excited to welcome the visitors.
Ramkot, located at 1,500 meters above sea level, and situated in Fedikhola is a suitable place for tourists. It is at a walkable distance of 40 minutes from Kubinde of Sidhartha highway that can be reached within 10 minutes by car.
Visitors can have a panoramic view of Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Lamjung peaks from this spot. The locals have been making efforts to promote the spot as one of the popular tourist destinations for a long time.
According to Abilash Gurung-Chairperson of Ramkot Homestay, Ramkot is a hill village, nearly 1,500 meters above sea level. Gurung recalled the quotation of Geographer Dr. Harka Gurung, who once mentioned that a wide range of panoramic views of Manaslu, Lamjung, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna is possible only from Ramkot hill.
“A Gorkha Memorial Park is being constructed in the village to commemorate 17,000 Gorkhas, killed during the world wars,” added Gurung.
The rural municipality has allocated the budget to run the Ramkot Homestay and devised a key plan to construct a natural garden at the entrance of the village to develop Ramkot as one of the popular tourist destinations.
Five houses of the village serve as the homestays. These homestays can accommodate 35 guests. The community is developing an additional number of homestays to accommodate the rising number of tourists in the village. Ramkot is only 17 km away from Sangjya bazaar and Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki province.
Homestay Proprietor-Anjana Gurung told highlights tourism that her house is one of the Ramkot homestays. Her house can accommodate upto10 tourists.
Gurung further said, “Both domestic and international tourists come to visit this village. Some of the tourists prefer to cook for themselves, and I serve the local foods to few.”
Foreign tourists like to observe and enjoy the local cultures. While some others want to work in the field and visit the local sources of water. They usually stay for a week.
The tourists can visit this village throughout the year. However, October to late April is considered as the best time to visit Ramkot.
Locals have also made public transportation arrangements for tourists, to and from Pokhara. Currently, the service is available twice a day.
