Canyoning organized at Sundarijal to promote Visit Year 2020
Kathmandu: Nepal Canyoning Association (NCA) in support of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Saturday organized a national canyoning festival at Syalmati waterfall, Sundarijal to promote Nepal government’s already declared program -Nepal Visit Year 2020.
Rajendra Lama, the chairperson of the Canyoning Association said that Sundarijal, 25km far from Kathmandu was chosen as the main site for canyoning festival because not only foreigners, but Nepali youths were also being attracted to canyoning as adventurous sports these days.
At least 65 participants rappelled from 40 meters long Syalmati waterfall with the help of ropes. Canyoning was being organized frequently at Kaski, Dhading, Kabre, Sindhupalchowk districts. Lama added that Canyoning was introduced in Nepal since 2003, although it was started in Europe and America in the 1990s.

He also said that canyoning could be further enhanced to attract more tourists, as many a tourist prefer to do canyoning as adventurous sports. According to the Canyoning Association, 10,000 people do canyoning on a yearly basis of which 1000 are foreigners. There are at least 50 trained guides for canyoning in Nepal.
