Kathmandu: Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai said that preparations are being made to open some restricted mountains in Nepal for Nepal visit year 2020.

Speaking at the 41st annual general meeting of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) on Friday, Minister Bhattarai said that the restricted areas of various Himalayan districts are also set to be opened for tourists.

“We will open the restricted mountains if we can, or we will make the restrictions less strict,” he said. He also added that it would not be difficult to bring 2 million tourists if all the people unite together.

He said that the main problem is infrastructure, and despite the weak infrastructure, a large number of tourists are coming to Nepal.

He added that tourism satellite and GPS systems are also being prepared for the safety of tourists coming to Nepal during the visit year. He also shared that the conflict between TAAN and Nepal Tourism Board regarding Trekkers’ Information Management Systems (TIMS) is being discussed with the Ministry of Finance and hoped to find the solution to the problem soon between two conflicting organizations.
