Overwhelmingly stunning Tilicho peak
Delights of Tilicho peak expedition
In general, while enjoying the thrill of the Tilicho expedition the climbers consider climbing Mt. Tilicho (7134m) as one of the technical and challenging tasks. The Tilicho base camp can be reached in two ways.
Tilicho expedition can be done for which one way is to take a short mountain flight from Pokhara to Jomson. Another way is a long way trek from Khansar village and Manang to reach the base camp. One of the foreign visitors who had an expedition to this peak commented by just saying, “It is a really stunning peak.”
Crossing Mesokanto Pass is a difficult task for the climbers of course while engaging in the Tilicho expedition as they need to proceed east and north to cross the high and difficult Mesokanto pass which towers at a height of 5300m.
Noirrit Kiran Chandra after landing at Tilicho Lake commented, “We got a vivid view of the Tilicho peak when we visited Tilicho lake in our Annapurna circuit trek. On a sunny day, it is heavenly to behold such an enormous mountain within such a close range. It was simply overwhelming!!”
During the Tilicho expedition, you will find some marine fossils or shells on the top of this high pass which gives the evidence that once the Himalayas were submerged under the sea and it might have taken hundreds of decades to rise so high. You should not forget that you should undergo acclimatization before you start your climbing.
You will find that the Tilicho Lake lies below the peak. The Tilicho lake is considered to be the highest lake in the world, although there are many other lakes in the higher altitudes. It is a glacial lake that is unfriendly to marine life.
If you are really planning to go for the Tilicho expedition, then mull over Spring and autumn to be the best seasons for this rare expedition which not only give you enough fun, glamour, charm, and flavoring spice of climbing a technical peak but also will give you enough sustained experience to climb other highers peaks after gaining the experience of having climbed this challenging peak.
Snowy Horizon Treks and Expedition said, “Tilicho Peak’s northeast ridge covered with snow majestically towers the high Kali Gandaki valley to the west and the Marshyangdi Valley to the east, while the hidden kingdom of Mustang lies just a few miles to the north. Maurice Herzog reported Tilicho in 1950 during his exploration of Annapurna. French climber Emanuel Schmutz climbed peak Tilicho for the first time via Northwest Shoulder, which reaches the shores of Lake Tilicho. This is a standard climbing route of the peak with the Base Camp (4800m) located on the Northwest end of the lake.”
The Expedition Cost may be up to USD 4500 per person.
