Global celebrity Xu Qing conferred as Tourism Goodwill Ambassador
Kathmandu: Chinese celebrity Ms. Xu Qing (Summer Qing)-an internationally well-renowned film actress with millions of followers globally- has been conferred as Nepal’s tourism goodwill ambassador for the Visit Year 2020 campaign.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at a formal program held in Kathmandu, conferred the goodwill ambassador to Xu Qing to promote Nepal’s visit year 2020 at the international arena.
Nepal’s National Coordinator for Visit Year campaign 2020, Suraj Vaidya handed over the certificate of recognition to Xu as a goodwill ambassador.
Speaking during the function, Minister Bhattarai said, “Our campaign for the visit year 2020 will surely take a qualitative turn as global celebrity Xu with such a large number of followers on social media is now Nepal’s goodwill ambassador for our campaign.”
Xu also expressed her gratitude for being nominated as the goodwill ambassador and said that she was very glad to be part and parcel of Nepal’s campaign for the visit year 2020 during which Nepal government intends to bring at least 2 million tourists in the country to boost both local as well as the national economy.
Minister Bhattarai also described Xu as the Nepali daughter of Princess Bhrikuti who was married to Tibetan king Songtsan Gampo in the ancient history of Nepal.
China is the second-largest source of tourists for Nepal.
Xu Qing was born on 22 January 1969 and was accepted as the student of the acting class of Beijing Film Academy in 1988 from where had graduated in 1992.
She had made her first film debut in 1990 by acting for “Life on a String, directed by Chen Kaige. In 1992 she was nominated for the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Ripples across Stagnant Water” In the same year she also acted in the television series of “At the Foot of The Imperial City” which earned her a good reputation in China as an actress. This was followed by her acting in the television series of “Laughing in the Wind” in 2001.
Xu won the Audience’s Choice for Actress award at the China TV Golden Eagle Award for her good performance in spy drama-The Chinese Woman at the Gunpoint of Gestapo” in 2003. Xu in 2009 acted in the Chinese historical film known as “The Foundation of a Republic” that won her the best-supporting Actress award.
On November 30, 2009, she became a contracted celebrity under the talent agency Huayi Brothers. Xu has also acted in the romantic drama- Blossoming of Beautiful Flowers produced by Gao Xixi in 2010.
Xu in 2012 acted for a character as the wife of Bruce Will’s character in the 2012 American film Looper. In 2013 Xu won the Huading Award for her performance as the best drama actress for A Dreamlike A Dream.
Xu had also won the Hundred Flowers Award as the best actress in 2016 for acting in a hit crime drama –Mr. Six. In 2017 Xu had starred in the film 24 Hours to Live– an American-South African action thriller.
