Dhulikhel Namo Buddha trek is one of the most popular trekking destinations near Kathmandu. It is a one-day short trek from Kathmandu where the main attractions are the beautiful Newari towns of Dhulikhel and Panauti, and  Namo Buddha, sacred Buddhist monastery. It is perfect for tourists having limited time while visiting in Nepal.

It is also called as Dhulikhel – Namo Buddha – Panauti trekking as this trek will take you from the exotic viewpoints of Dhulikhel to the spellbinding Buddhist monastery and  a beautiful town of Panauti.

Due to the route it follows, natural beauties are abundant on the way. You can relish the mesmeric view of the sunrise from Dhulikhel and various mountains from Namo Buddha.

Dhulikhel is a small beautiful town 30 km south-west of Kathmandu at an altitude of 1,550 meters. The place is inhabited by various groups such as Bhramin, Tamangs, Chhetris, Dalits, and mostly Newari people. Dhulikhel is rich culturally and naturally.

The trek starts from Dhulikhel and ends at Panauti. You are definitely going to love the walk-in Hajar Sidi (Thousands step) inside the jungle, Buddhist statue smiling at you on the way, and the panoramic views of different mountains like Mt. Everest, Gauri Shanker, Melungtse, Number, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himalayan range, and Rolwaling Himalayan range from atop hill of Dhulikhel.

After relishing the beauty you will move towards a very religious Namo Buddha Monastery. Namo Buddha is a very famous Buddhist pilgrimage site elevated at an altitude of 1,750 meters. The beauty and the religious value of the monastery is what attracts most of the visitors. It is also one of the meditation retreat of Nepal.

Namo Buddha is a very beautiful and quiet place with a natural air and pollution-free environment. Due of this It is one of the important Buddhist pilgrimage site with spectacular views of snow-covered peaks, green valleys, and a wonderful sunset. Rows of Buddhist stupas adorned with prayer flags and lots of monasteries are what will surely attract you.

Mesmeric idols of Lord Buddha in his compassionate manifestation, Buddhist monk’s prayers will allure you. There is also the presence of a carved stone image of a prince, believed to be the previous incarnation of Lord Buddha, who offered his flesh to save the starving tigress and her cubs from impending death.

After exploring the immense beauty of Namo Buddha, You will hike down up to Panauti, a beautiful Newari town. It is your last destination of the trek. There you can visit old houses built in Newari architecture, various temples and enjoy the Newari culture and cuisine. From Panauti you will drive back to the Kathmandu.
