Everest trail race kicks off

Kathmandu: The world’s ninth and toughest high altitude Everest trail race is kicking off from Dhap Patale of Solukhumb district from Monday, according to Kami Sherpa the Managing Director of Annapurna treks.
The 172 km long Everest trail race is being organized by Annapurna Treks and Expedition in association with Span’s Grand Space.
The Everest trail race will begin from the 2,700-meter high altitude and will pass through Chyangsar of Solukhumbu, Namche, Tengboche before reaching the Lukla region.
At least 45 trail runners representing 12 countries including three Nepalese will participate in the race. The first, second and third prize for the race winners will be 1,000 Euros, 750 Euros, and 250 Euros respectively, said Sherpa.
Annapurna trek has been organizing this race since 2011 to preserve the route used by Tenzing Norge Sherpa and Edmund Hillary while summitting Mt Everest in the past.
It is a freestyle race and the runners will be required to reach the highest point of Everest trail -Pikey peak (4,068m). This trail race is also intended to promote the Visit Nepal 2020, Sherpa added.
