Tourist arrivals in October 2019 shows sustained growth

Kathmandu: With the arrival of 143,670 tourists in Nepal throughout October 2019 marked an encouraging trend for the tourism sector, according to online media reports.

The tourism sector relished a sustained increase in the arrival of foreign tourists that marked 10% arrival more as compared to last year’s arrival percentage. Of the total arrivals, 123,267 tourists arrived by air, 20,603 came via land.

Indian tourists increased by 9.1% as compared to last year and tourists from Bangladesh arrived as much as 58.6% and the overall arrival of SAARC guests reached only 7%. Similarly 15, 037 Chinese tourists arrived which showed an increase of 11.5% as compared to last year’s record, the report said.

Likewise, the tourists from Thailand, South Korea, and Japan in October 2019 were limited to 3,698, 3,032 and 2,541 respectively.The European arrivals indicated a total of 42,297 tourists in October 2019. Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, Germany, and France in October 2019 were 8,672, 7,308, and 6,777 respectively, the report added. 

The American tourists to Nepal in October 2019 was 12,109, indicating a 5% increase over the figures for last year, while the number of Australian and Canadian visitors to Nepal in October 2019 was recorded to be 5,625 and 2,624 respectively.

“The growth of international visitors’ arrival has been possible only because of the synergy in our efforts along with the private sector, diplomatic missions, Nepalese diaspora, media, and other stakeholders,” said Deepak Raj Joshi, the Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board.
