Attempting Nepal’s strenuous Naya Kanaga Peak

Although just 5844 m in altitude, the peak of Naya Kanga is reported to be strenuous and difficult for the climb for the mountaineers, yet they do prefer to accept this challenge. Climbers to this peak generally choose the north-east ridge to climb this peak. This stunning mountain lies in the lap of naturally beautiful Lantang valley.

So, if you are wishing to climb this majestic peak, you need to travel through the scenic region of Lantang valley which will keep you afresh in mood and attitude before you could trek to the base camp of this peak.

First of all, as you step in the region of Lantang valley your eyes will be dazzled with the glittering light of the snowcapped high mountain in the surroundings. The intensity of geographical diversity, flora, and fauna that you will find across the trails from Langtang to Gosainkunda will be bewitching to you all along the way. 

Expedition of the Naya Kanga peak is also known as Ganja Lal Chuli peak climbing among the trekkers and travelers. Ganja Lal (5122m) is the most prominent pass of this region that paves your way to Helambu and Kathmandu valley.

The Langtang valley is located at a distance of just 30 km from north of Kathmandu and it is nearer to the Tibetan border. Once you are on the top of the peak of Naya Kanga you have the fabulous glimpses of mountains such as Lantang II, Langshisa Ri, Pemthang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Pemthang Kapro Ri.

The expedition also offers the ancient cultural mode of living of local Tamang indigenous tribes living here since primordial times. Besides, the peak’s location in the Annapurna region also makes it possible to experience the exotic green vegetation, glaciers, striking sight of the landscape along with a majestic view of Himalayan ranges such as Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Sishapangama, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung among various other peaks. 

The peak climbing is technically easy, but you need to climb in the morning and return to the high camp by the afternoon to avoid encountering a high risk of the icy storm on the peak in the day time. 

The aromatic atmosphere of dense forest with the fragrance of rhododendron all along the trail can make the trekkers and climbers feel refreshed all the time. The presence of a waterfall, elusive leopard, and red panda along the trail can make you feel flabbergasted at times.

How to go about it?

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubensi. Then trek to Lama Hotel. Trek to Gore Tabela. Trek to Langtang village. Trek to Kyanin Gompa. Acclimatization day. Trek to Brachen Kharka or Naya Kanga base camp (4400m). Prepare for the climb.

Best time 

Spring and autumn seasons are the best time to climb this mountain peak.
