Kathmandu: Blacktopping and upgrading works of Dewal Airport in Bajhang are reported to be lagging.

According to locals, the sluggish and wantonness of the contractor involved in the blacktopping of the airport has disrupted the delivery of services related to health in an emergency owing to the suspension of flights.

Moreover, the suspension of flights has also hampered the arrival of tourists to the district. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had given the tender for airport blacktopping to Amar Construction in July 2018 to complete the works in 15 months.

The airport was built in 1978 and was operated till 2008 after which most of the airline companies stopped operating flights to it citing the dissatisfied infrastructure of the airport. Nepal government has already allocated Rs 55 million for the blacktopping of the airport runway.
