Mountain guides demand safety and welfare
Kathmandu: Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) chairman Ang Norbu Sherpa has said that the Nepal government should ensure the social security of the mountain guides.
Addressing the 11th batch of NNMGA course 2019, Sherpa expressed that since mountain guides are paid lowly and they encounter challenges and risk while guiding the tourists, their social security should be ensured.
“The guides always risk their lives to support the expedition members on different mountains so their contribution to the climbing industry must be honored,” he added.
Sherpa further hinted that the concerned stakeholders have not increased their investment in the safety and welfare of these guides.
Sherpa also said that NNMGA was providing necessary training to the mountain guides to enhance their skills and capacities in providing quality services to the expedition members.
