Kathmandu: Kasa and RB Diamond in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board and Visit Nepal Year 2020 are organizing “The Mt. Everest Fashion Runway“- a Guinness Book of World Record attempt which is scheduled for January 26, 2020, at Kalapatthar with a theme of Sustainability.

This was disclosed at a press meeting held in Kathmandu Wednesday. The press statement distributed in the press meet said that the event is being held to raise awareness about global Climate change and to showcase the natural beauty of Nepal. It further said the event will be the first of its kind with 15 supermodels from Milan and 5 models from Nepal putting on a show for 45 minutes at 5,644 meters.

Even the Guinness Book of World Record is impressed with the scale of the event and has promised to put this event prominently in their marketing communication. “An official adjudicator from Guinness Book of World Records is arriving in Kathmandu on 24 January 2020 to confirm the world record attempt,” said the statement.

The Fashion industry is often regarded as one of the biggest polluters of the world as the industry produces 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions, and is the second-largest consumer of the world’s water supply, and pollutes the oceans with micro-plastics.

In this context, The Everest Fashion runway aims at spreading awareness of how the Fashion industry could be carbon neutral and sustainable. Further, the use of sustainable fabric and renouncing fast fashion is an important component of reducing the impact on climate. Kasa is using an all Nepali, all organic and all biodegradable line made of felt and pashmina to produce and promote its line to introduce Nepali sustainable fashion to the world.

The event is believed to be a great platform to promote the idea of sustainable fashion along with introducing Nepali luxury brands to the world. Moreover, the organizers are using probiotic soaps and laundry bars to be used during the trek up to Kala Pathar.

Developed by IIT, these products do not pollute the environment after being introduced to the local water bodies. The organizers will also be using waterless bath and shampoo products which allow users to clean themselves without needing water. With a team of more than 30 people trekking to Kala Pathar, the event is doing its part in minimizing its environmental impacts.

“Nepal has many superlatives to describe itself. We have the only living goddess, the highest mountains in the world, the deepest gorge in the world. This event will help Nepal achieve another record by setting the highest fashion runway in the world,” added the statement.

The Mt. Everest Fashion Runway is also making an 8-part reality series that will be aired in MTV about the models’ journey to Kalapatthar. This series will be broadcasted all over the world and help introduce Nepal as both a fashion as well as a tourism destination all over the world, said the statement.
