New trekking route comes into operation in Annapurna region

New Trekking route-Maurice Herzog in Annapurna region

Kathmandu: A new trekking trail, the Maurice Herzog trail has come into operation, that starts from Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 Narchyang and leads up to the Mt. Annapurna ( 8,091m) base camp.

The new trekking trail is named after the French citizen and climber Maurice Herzog, who had led the first expedition to Annapurna and succeeded in ascending its peak in 1950.

“We have brought this new trekking route into operation to attract trekkers who want to try a new route to the base camp of Annapurna which is the 10th highest peak in the world, ” said Annapurna Rural Municipality president Dam Bahadur Pun.

Chief Minister of the Gandaki Province Prithvi Subba Gurung released the map of the trekking route while opening a tourism festival recently.
