Nepal Grabs Paragliding World Cup Team Event
Kaski: Nepal has grabbed the Paragliding World Cup Team event under the Paragliding World Cup Asian Tour and 19th Edition of Nepal Open Paragliding Championship that concluded in Pokhara, Sarangkot on Saturday.
Nepal team finished first in the cross country event by crossing 47.8 km and secured 54 points. The Nepal team was represented by Yukesh Gurung, Bishal Thapa, Bijay Gautam, and Sher Bahadur Gurung.
Korean team secured the second position in the same event by securing 49 points, while the German team stood in the third position by securing 45 points.
The individual event for men was won by Korean Jungman Choi for securing 220 points. Nepal’s Bishal Thapa secured 147 points to get the second position, while another Korean Chyong Han secured 130 points to get the third position in the individual event.
In individual women’s event, American Gyalen Kirkpatrick won the first position and Korean Yana lee became the runner-up while Swiss national Susan Stofer got the third position.
Youth and Sports Minister Jagat Bahadur Biswakarma and Machhapuchre Rural Municipality chairman Karna Gurung gave away the medals, prizes, and certificates to the winners of the event.
At least 92 participants representing 20 countries had participated in the paragliding championship, which was held from February 23 to 29 in Pokhara, Sarangkot.
The participants of this championship and championship held in China and Indonesia, based on secured points will be eligible to participate in the Paragliding World Championship to be held in 2021.
