Kathmandu: Nepal government has decided to postpone all promotional activities related to the Visit Nepal 2020 (VNY2020) campaign in foreign countries owing to fear of COVID-19.
According to government sources, the decision was taken amid increasing global fear and transmission of Coronavirus disease through travelers.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai while speaking in a program in Kathmandu said, “We have decided to postpone all promotional activities for the VNY2020 campaign abroad due to outbreak of Coronavirus and fear.”
Minister Bhattarai also said that such postponement of promotional activities will be in force until the situation improves. “We will focus on domestic tourism only until then,” said Minister Bhattarai.
The new cases of COVID-19 have shown no sign of abetting with above 2900 deaths and 85000 people infected with Coronavirus across the globe.
The epidemic of COVID-19 has given a blow to Nepal’s VNY2020 campaign which had started in January with a mission to bring at least two million tourists which seems next to impossible after Chinese tourists started canceling most of the hotels’ bookings in Nepal.
It may be recalled that the Nepal government earlier had attempted to declare Nepal a COVID-19 free zone to minimize the adverse impact of the coronavirus disease in Nepal.
