Manakamana Cable car gets locked down
Kathmandu: Manakamana cable car has closed due to an increasing global Coronavirus pandemic. General Manager of Manakamana cable car Pvt Limited DN Kayastha said the decision to close down the cable car services with effect from Saturday till the end of March in a move to contain COVID-19.
The government’s high-level committee earlier had issued directives to stop all kinds of gatherings in response to which the Chitwan district administration office directed the Manakamana Cable car to stop its services said Kayastha.
Hundreds of devotees throng to Mankamna temple to worship at the temple daily by using Manakamana cable car. All cinema halls including public gatherings and public fairs have also been restricted in the Chitwan district.
The lethal epidemic Coronavirus known as COVID-19 which spread from mainland China has already claimed the lives of over 7,989 people globally with maximum deaths in China only and around 198,712 people (in more than 160 countries) being infected around the world.
COVID-19 has insidiously affected tourism worldwide, including Nepal. Nepal continues to scramble for preventive measures with limited resources.
