Construction of international airport during lock-down phase
Kathmandu: Construction of international airports such as Gautam Buddha international airport and Pokhara regional international airport has progressed much in the last nine months.
This was disclosed in a progress statement report of Ministry for culture, tourism and civil aviation on Sunday. The report further mentioned that at least 15% of Gautam Buddha international airport construction works has been completed during this nine months period while 14% of construction works for Pokhara regional international airport has been completed during the same period.
Tourism minister Yogesh Bhattarai said that since the construction works are in full swing during the lock-down period Gautam Buddha international airport and Pokhara regional international airport will be completed very soon which might take around three months.
Around 250 Chinese workers and 100 Nepali workers are working for Pokhara international airport to construct the main airstrip.
The projects are supposed to be completed within the month of July. However, it could be completed six months earlier since the progress of the work continues as expected as lock-down has not affected the supply of raw materials said project chief Munkarmi.
