2.5 million tourists to be brought in Nepal in 5 years

Kathmandu: Nepal government has aimed at bringing at least 2.5 million tourists in Nepal in the next five years.

Earlier, the government’s national campaign to bring 2 million tourists in Nepal during Visit Nepal Year 2020 was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The government decided to chalk out this strategic plan to increase the number of tourists visiting Nepal with a view to promote Nepal’s natural, cultural and man made heritages as attractive tourist destinations in the world map of safe and attractive destinations.

Nepal’s tourism sector is endowed with natural scenic beauty, landscape which could benefit the country, yet the onslaught of Covid-19 has ruined this industry which can only be revived through promotion of internal tourism that could substantially and essentially pave the way for international tourists to visit Nepal according to tourism experts and observers.

Nepal tourism industry has witnessed a recorded visit of at least 1 million tourists in 2017 while it soared to 1.1 million in the years 2018 and 2019.

In 2019, the countries from where the maximum tourists visited Nepal included India (21.2%), China (14.2%), America (7.8%), UK (5.1%) and Srilanka (4.7%). This number of tourists visiting Nepal from five countries covers 53% of total tourists arrival in Nepal.
