Kathmandu: Thamel business men are to get 50% discount in house rents from six months to one year.
The house owners of touristic area Thamel and Thamel business men reached an agreement to this effect. This was disclosed at a press meet held on Wednesday in the presence of 22 agencies and Thamel house owners.
According to Thamel Tourism Development Council chair Bhavi Sharma at least 270 rooms and shutters were left empty after business men started leaving the Thamel area in the absence of business following Covid-19 pandemic and nationwide lock down in the country.
The Thamel area which is the main tourist hub in Nepal had remained forlorn and forsaken for the last three months after Coronavirus hit the tourism sector the most and most of the tourism entrepreneurs’ hopes for tourism prospects collapsed.
More than 200 houses of Thamel area accommodate around 10,000 tourism businesses here.
Those singing the agreement with the Thamel house owners included Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies, Tourist Bus Association of Nepal, Village Tourism Promotion Forum, Nepal Import Council and Foreign Currency Exchange Association and Nepal Kailash Journey Association.
