Fifth phase of repatriation flight begins

Kathmandu: The fifth phase of repatriation flights to rescue stranded Nepalis abroad due to Covid-19 and lock down has begun from Monday.

Nepal’s two airlines companies -Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines and foreign Airlines companies- have started the chartered repatriation flights to bring home stranded Nepalis from abroad since August 17.

Nepal airline will make chartered flights until August 31 while Himalaya airlines is scheduled to make repatriation flights until August 30.

The government had decided to open both domestic and international flights from August 17, but had to postpone the operation of flights by keeping in view of the spreading spree of the deadly virus across the country in the recent days.

These chartered flights are scheduled to bring home at least 500 stranded Nepalis each day of which 200 will be repatriated free cost (their plane fare will be borne by the government), while 300 will have to pay the air fare.

The stranded Nepalis will be rescued based on the recommendation of Nepali embassies based the in respective foreign countries.

The high level government committee related to Covid-19 crisis said as many as 51,441 Nepalis have returned home so far through chartered flights.
