Minister Bhattarai congratulates Qatar Prince for successful ascent of Mt. Ama Dablam

Kathmandu: Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai has felicitated Qatari Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Thani and his expedition team leader Garret Madison for their successful ascent of Mt. Amadablam (6812m).

Iswari Paudel, the Managing Director of Himalayan Guides that managed the entire expedition said such Royal family involved expeditions can spread positive messages about Nepal’s tourism sector abroad.

Earlier, the 13-member mountaineering team including the Prince stepped on the summit of the 6,812 meters tall peak at 11.20 AM last Wednesday, the Department of Tourism said.

Department’s director Meera Acharya, who is also the chief of the Mountaineering Section at the Department, confirmed that the team including Prince Sheikh Mohammed had scaled the peak. She said this is the first-ever ascent on Amadablam in this autumn season.

Before this, an expedition team of the Royal Force including Bahrain prince Naseer Bin Hamid al-Khalifa had climbed the 8,163-metre-high Mt Manaslu and returned home in the third week of October.

As per the latest information shared by the Department, seven mountaineering expedition teams have been given permission for climbing mountains this autumn season. Mountaineering royalty amounting to Rs 3 million 374 thousand 82 has been collected from this.

Two expedition teams have taken permission for climbing Mt Manaslu, two teams for climbing Mt Amadablam, and two expedition teams for climbing Mt Himlung while one team each has taken permission to scale Mt Baruntse and Mt Gyalzen.
