Bhaitika being observed today

Kathmandu: The whole nations is observing Bhaitika today on the final day of the five day long Tihar festival which is one of the national festival of the nation.

The occasion of Bhaitika is marked for festival to show the bond of love between brothers and sisters when sisters pray for long life and prosperity of their brothers. The brothers also offer some gifts to their sisters on this occasion and also vow to protect sisters in adversity.

According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, 11:37 a.m. is the most auspicious time for receiving and offering Bhaitika.

After applying colorful tika on the foreheads of their brothers, sisters offer them a varieties of foods such as sweets and home made sel.

The occasion also signifies s a legendary event in which a sister won a boon from “Yama”, the deity of death that her brother would not die until the mustard oil is dried up.
