Tourist hub-Thamel returning to normalcy
Kathmandu: The tourist hub of Kathmandu-Thamel is slowly returning to normalcy after the Covid-19 pandemic crippled it.
The hustle and bustle in the Thamel areas have reportedly increased in the recent days after it was crippled due to lockdown for nearly eight months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The whole Thamel area had looked deserted after Covid-19 pandemic and government orders for suspension of international flights that dissuaded the foreign tourists to come to Nepal and even the tourists who had come to Nepal were evacuated and repatriated to their respective countries via chartered planes.
The Thamel areas are vibrant with the movement of domestic tourists these days. Nepal government’s huge plan for Visit Nepal 2020 was also thwarted due to Covid-19.
The Thamel area where more than 6000 business personnel are waiting for the market to open and become fully vibrant is usually famous for a crowd of people enjoying various entertainments in the nighttime.
Although, foreign tourists have not come to Thamel, yet tourism activities have been initiated in the Thamel area by targeting the domestic tourists these days, according to Vice President of Thamel Tourism Development Council Mr. Bhaviswor Sharma.
He further said that at least 20% of the business in Thamel is covered by domestic tourists while 80% of business is covered by foreign tourists.
