Glimpses of Traditional Kartik Dance

Kartik dance being performed on Saturday. The dance was performed for two days only this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kathmandu: A short version of Kartik dance has been performed at Dabbli located at Patan Durbar in Lalitpur. The dance which should have been performed for the entire month of Karik was performed for two days only on Friday and Saturday due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Kartik dance was initiated almost 379 years ago by Malla King Siddhi Narsingh Malla. The local Newar community of Lalitpur usually observe this cultural dance with great pomp and show.

A scant number of viewers were present to observe the dance on Friday and Saturday, though a such number of viewers used to very high in number in the previous years. The dance was performed by the artists of (18-60 years aged) amidst tight police security.
