NMA appoints Purja Goodwill Ambassador
Kathmandu: Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has appointed the famous world record holder mountaineer Nirmal Purja as its goodwill ambassador for the year 2021.
Purja, a youth from Myagdi village of Nepal, who joined the British army, had created a world record by successfully climbing all the 14 highest mountain peaks above 8000 meters in just seven months.
This was followed by a recent world record of ten Nepali veteran climbers led by Purja that successfully climbed the world’s second-highest peak -K2 based in Pakistan in winter that stunned the world of mountaineers.
All ten climbers have been awarded 10 years of the general membership of NMA. The climbers under the leadership of Purja who climbed K2 included Migma David Sherpa, Mingma Tenjing Sherpa, Gyalzen Sherpa, Prem Chiri Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Kilu Sherpa, Mingma G, Dawa Tenjing Sherpa, and Sona Sherpa.
