18,000 tourists arrived in two months, growth rate low
Kathmandu: Nepal has seen an improvement in tourist arrivals after 2021. However, the growth rate of arrivals is low.
According to the Immigration Department, a total of 18,020 tourists have visited Nepal in January and February. In January, 8,874 tourists have visited Nepal. Arrivals in February have generally improved.
The Department statistics divulged that 9,146 tourists have visited Nepal in a month. Meanwhile, the highest number of tourists has come from India. With the opening of direct air links between Nepal and India, tourist arrivals from India have increased.
Nepal considers all Indians coming by air as tourists. However, Indians coming by land are not counted among the tourists. In just two months, 8791 tourists have come to Nepal from India. This number is much lower than in the same period in 2020.
In February 2020 alone, Nepal welcomed 14,840 tourists from India. In two months, 2,585 tourists have come to Nepal from China. Arrivals from China declined in February compared to January. In February alone, 708 tourists came to Nepal from China.
The statistics stated that the number of American tourist arrivals has increased significantly in recent days. While 874 Americans visited Nepal in January, 1,120 American tourists visited Nepal in February. In a period of two months, 1994 tourists from the United States have visited Nepal.
