Helambu trek is the most popular and short trekking itinerary for trekkers in the Langtang region while in Nepal.
This trek can be completed in just 5 to 7 days which can be started from both ways either Melamchi Bazar about 60 Km or by Sundarijal 26 Km from Kathmandu.
Helambu is located northeast of Kathmandu. It extends from north of Taramarang to the tree limit of the Gosainkunda Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal. Several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages, scattered on both sides of the Melamchi Khola can be found while trekking through this region.
The trekking can be full of fun, excitement, and enjoyment and entertaining to observe the Langtang valley which is aptly called “the valley of glaciers”. Tharepati is the highest point of the trek.
A spectacular and panoramic glimpse of Himal can be seen from here. On either side of the valley, mountains rise, soaring into the sky, and looks like the mountains are kissing the sky at some point.
The Helambu valley offers pine forest, slow-moving rivers and swift mountain streams, rugged rocks and snow-capped peaks, grassy downs, and meadows strewn with daisies that enthrall the visitors. The monasteries of this valley give you a glimpse of the ancient Tibetan lifestyle.
The upper Helambu valley is naturally endowed with snow bridges spanning angry torrents, high passes enveloped in mist, tiny lakes with icebergs coated on them, and waters waves as clear as crystals. The jungle of green bamboo and the fragrance of rhododendron flowers always welcome the tourists and make them forget their tiredness during trekking.
The Helambu trek is a short and most exciting one as the elevation ranges between 800m and 3600m, which offers an environment of less temperature and less climbing. So, it can be done by anyone who might be just a beginner in trekking.
