Government warns: Monsoon likely to cause floods and landslides

Kathmandu: Nepal government has issued warnings to all concerned people across the nation to be alert against floods and landslides likely to be caused by the monsoon.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged that since this year’s monsoon is likely to bring more rainfall than that of previous years more floods and landslides will be triggered.

The monsoon arrival since last Friday in Nepal from Province 1, Province 2, and Bagmati Province is now active in Lumbini and Gandaki provinces and will spread across the country soon.

The water level may rise significantly in large and medium rivers in the country while flash floods could cause unprecedented inundation in various parts of the country including the Tarai and Chure region, said a statement released on Saturday.

All those concerned are called upon to contact in the 24-hour operational telephone number 01-4113111 (weather) and toll-free number 1155 (floods) in case of dire need and emergency, added the statement.
