Women leaders to march to Everest Base Camp to draw global attention
Kathmandu: A group of eminent women leaders is all set to embark on a march to Mt Everest Base Camp in a bid to draw global attention towards the adverse impacts of climate change.
The eminent group of women comprising of at least 27 members, representing various ranks and files of the society are reported to start their trek (march) to the Everest base camp in the month of March.
The key slogan of the march will be “Women United for Climate Justice’. The march is to be initiated on March 8, which coincides with International Women’s Day.
The march or trek which will begin from Kathmandu is expected to take around 12 days to reach the Kalapathar area of the Everest region.
Calling for climate justice, and drawing the world’s attention towards the worse impacts of climatic changes, melting of snow in the Himalayan region will be the main objective of this march, which will be accomplished in coordination with the organization called Sath Sathai according to program coordinator Prajita Karki.
