Mountaineers to introduce Mt Cho Oyu’s winter summit commercial route
Kathmandu: As many as 10 Nepali mountaineers are all set to trek to the Everest region to ascend Mt Cho Oyu in winter and introduce a commercial route.
The 10 member expedition team comprises of Gelje Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, Karma Sherpa, Pam Dorjee Sherpa, Gesman Tamang, Tashi Sherpa, Tenging Sherpa, Phuri Sherpa, Pem Tenzi Sherpa, and Bibas Sherpa along with basecamp staff comprising Chandra Bahadur Tamang, Niradwaj Tamang, Pemba Sherpa including project manager Ashok Rai.
The team of mountaineers will make a commercial route to the summit of Mt Cho Oyu from the Nepal side, which is expected to benefit both Nepal and the world of mountaineering.
The team of mountaineers has already left for Lukla. The expedition is funded by the world’s popular mountaineer Nirmal Purja, Mingma David Sherpa, among others.
Mountaineer Purja who has been a British soldier left the British military service a few years ago and succeeded in making a historic record of being the mountaineer to summit all 14 peaks above 8000 meters in only seven months to set a world record.
Mt Cho Oyu (8,188 meters) is the sixth highest peak out of 14 highest peaks above 8000m in the world,
