Tourist activity increased in Thamel
Kathmandu. Tourist activities have started to increase in various areas of Nepal including Thamel, a major tourist area in Kathmandu.
Tourist destinations across the country, including Thamel, which is on the verge of stagnation due to the third phase of Omicron virus that has spread globally, are slowly gaining momentum.
Thamel, which was deserted after the government banned night-time business due to the growing omicron virus, has reopened its night-time business from Feb13.
The activity of domestic and foreign tourists has increased. Bhavishwar Sharma, the vice-chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Council, says that the Covid-19 infection rate is low and tourism activities have increased in Thamel with the start of night business.
“Foreign tourists are gradually seen in the streets of Thamel,” he said. Eighty percent of the trade is done by foreign tourists and 20 percent by domestic tourists.
There are more than 1000 hotels in the Thamel area. Mahesh Phunyal, general manager of Ramda Incor, a four-star hotel operating in the middle of Corona in Thamel, says that tourism activities are increasing in Thamel.
