Greek alpinist Antonios Sykaris dies on Mount Dhaulagiri
Kathmandu: A 59 -years old veteran Greek alpinist Antonios Sykaris is reported to have died on Tuesday on Nepal’s rugged Mount Dhaulagiri according to the expedition organizers.
This is the first of this spring season’s fatality in mountaineering. The reports of the sudden demise of Sykaris came a day after he triumphantly wrote on his Instagram about his victory over the world’s seventh highest mountain.
Mingma Sherpa, a mountain guide of Seven Summit Treks confirmed that the greek climber had fallen ill while descending the mountain of Dhaulagiri and died at an altitude of 7,400 meters.
Sykaris had a recorded history of having climbed five mountains above 8,000 in the past.
