Poornima Shrestha scales Mt Kanchanjunga
Kathmandu: Climber Poornima Shrestha has scaled 8,586 meters high Mt Kanchanjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain.
Photojournalist Poornima who turned her career to mountaineering had attempted Mt Kanchanjung this season after vanquishing several other higher peaks in the past.
She had left the IV camp on Wednesday night and successfully set her foot on the top of Mt Kanchanjunga at around 5 pm Thursday, according to Dawa Sherpa of the Seven Summit Treks Private Limited, from which Poorna had embarked upon this expedition.
Last year in October too, Poornima had summitted Mt Dahulagiri (8,167meters) the world’s eighth highest peak, and became the first Nepali woman to successfully climb the mountain.
She has already scaled Mt Everest, Mt Annapurna-I, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri.
Shrestha plans to scale Mt Lhotse and Mt Makal the next.
