One person dies as avalanche hit Manaslu base camp again
Kathmandu: One person died in an avalanche at the Manaslu mountain base camp in North Gorkha Tuesday.
A 35-year-old Dawa Chiring Sherpa of Taplejung was killed in an avalanche on his way to the second and third base camps this morning.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police Kedar Khanal of the District Police Office, three of the four people who were caught in the avalanche came in contact immediately.
A search was started after the Sherpas lost contact. He said that the missing Sherpa was found dead after the incident.
SP Khanal informed that the body of the deceased Sherpa was rescued by a Simric Air helicopter and brought from the base camp to Samagaon. Gorkha Police officials said that the body of the deceased will be handed over to the relatives after the autopsy.
The second base camp was also hit by an avalanche on Sunday morning. Two people were killed and 12 people were injured in the avalanche. Anup Rai of Sankhuwasabha and world-famous American ski climber Hilary Nelson had died while skiing in the avalanche.
