CAAN: Domestic pilots to fly only 8 hours
Kathmandu: The domestic pilots will now be allowed to fly only eight hours and land only eight times a day.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on Wednesday, the new rules will soon be implemented to ensure a new air flight system and air safety in Nepal keeping in view of the upcoming rainy days.
The CAAN said so after having consultative meetings with experts and stakeholders pertinent to aviation sector in order to make the aviation sector safer, reliable, dignified and upheld with utter professionalism.
The authorities also reiterated that such new rules were being implemented not just because of the recent Pokhara air crash, but as a regular process adopted by the CAAN to keep the flight safety in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s standards of the Chicago Conference.
These rules will be modified every three or six months as per the requirements to make Nepal’s airspace safer.
New rules are to be strictly imposed as against the current provision of ten hours of flight and ten landings per day for domestic pilots. The rules also stressed that the planes should always be 500 feet above the ground level during short take-off landing (STOL) in hilly areas and at least 1000 feet above the ground level when flying in accessible areas.
The rules also indicated that the trainee pilots should be sent to the aircraft manufacturing companies for skill test if required.
