Slovakian tourist dies of altitude sickness in Khumbu

Kathmandu: A foreign tourist has died in Khumbu area of ​​Solukhumbu due to altitude sickness. 68-year-old Ark Janko from Slovakia died on Monday night in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4 Gorkshep according to media reports.

District Police Office Solukhumbu Police Inspector and Information Officer Ram Kishore Shah informed that Janko died due to lack of oxygen.

The police said that there is a problem in the rescue due to continuous snowfall in Khumbu area. It is said that communication services in the area were also affected due to the snowfall. Janko came here for mountain climbing through traditional adventure.

DSP of District Police Office Solukhumbu, Deepak Shrestha informed that he was found dead while sleeping in the Himalayan Hotel in Goraksep, Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality 4, Khumbu. He came in a group of 13 people and entered Namche on 15 March.

The police said that there was a problem in rescuing the body due to adverse weather conditions. DSP Shrestha said helicopters will be sent for rescue only on Wednesday when the snowfall stops in the Khumbu region.
