PM inaugurates paragliding, says it boosts tourism
Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said paragliding contributes in a big way to tourism promotion. Inaugurating the paragliding launched by Himalayan Frontiers Paragliding Company Chitwan here today, he said the paragliding would further support tourism in Chitwan.
The Company launched it on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2080 on April 14. The paragliding is operated at Chaukidanda of Bharatpur Metropolitan City- 29 in the Chitwan district. The paragliding location is at a height of 1,200 meters above sea level.
Stating that paragliding is an important adventure activity for tourists, PM said, “This is a safe and adventure sport. I will also come here for paragliding, taking out time.” He expressed his happiness at the launching of paragliding in Chitwan at the initiatives of youth entrepreneurs, saying this adventure activity has entered Nepal and can be developed as Nepal’s international-level new tourism product.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) director-general Pradip Adhikari said paragliding will make a significant contribution to the tourism sector. It should be run in a safe way fulfilling the standards set for paragliding, he stressed.
Company chairman Bijaya Bahadur Ghale stated that paragliding has been started as a new destination for domestic and foreign tourists visiting Chitwan. He added that paragliding has been added as a new tourism product of Chitwan aiming to prolong the stay of tourists in Chitwan.
Paragliders take off from Chaukidanda and land on the bank of the Trishuli River at Devghat Rural Municipality-5, Tanahu district. It is 20-30 minutes flight. Currently, 10 paragliding crafts are in service and 45 people can paraglide in a day (rss).
