Police person scales Mt Everest and Sherpa dies during descent
Kathmandu: Senior Sub Inspector of Nepal Police, Purushottam Nepali, scaled Mt Everest successfully on Wednesday. It is the first time a Nepal Police personnel reached the Everest.
Nepali represented Nepal police and hoisted the national flag upon the summit. He had embarked on mountaineering as part of the program Nepal Police held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of INTERPOL. Nepal is the 100th member of INTERPOL. Sherpa dies while returning from the summit of Sagarmatha
Phurba Sherpa, a resident of Sankhuwasabha, who was involved in the Nepal Army’s Clean Mountain Campaign, in 2023, died on the way back to the base camp after reaching atop the Sagarmatha (Mount Everest).
The NA’s Military and Public Relations Directorate said today that efforts were underway to retrieve the body of Lama. Likewise, Captain Dipendra Singh Khatry, who went unwell while returning after climbing Mount Everest, was airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Khatry who was also engaged in the clean mountain campaign in Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse was first taken to camp-2 with support from other mountaineers.
Captain Khatri along with three others who were taken to Kathmandu for treatment are said to be in normal health condition now, the directorate said. The remaining works of the clean mountain campaign are being carried out under the leadership of Major Kishor Adhikari despite unfavorable weather conditions.
