Foreign guests to observe Indra Jatra festival
Kathmandu: At least 22 foreign guests from China and the US are to arrive in Nepal to observe the upcoming Indra Jatra cultural festival in Kathmandu valley according to Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
Indra Jatra is one of the oldest cultural festivals observed by the locals of Kathmandu valley from time immemorial, which is directly connected to the cultural identity of the Kathmandu valley and native Newar people. The festival is schedule to be held on September 28, 2023.
This was disclosed to the media persons at a program by KMC spokersperson Nabin Manandhar held on Monday in Kathmandu. Manandhar said the guests from Fredericksburg City of the US, and Nanjing, Chengdu and Zhengzhou cities of China will come to participate in the festival.
The KMC has already initiated preparations for the foreign guests to visit and observe the heritages in the Hanuman Durbar Square, Handigaun, Swayambhu and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, said Manandhar.
On the occasion of Indra Jatra festival, the head of the state also visit and worship the Living Goddess Kumari, Ganesh and Bhairav during the festival.
The ancient cultural festival of Indra Jatra was initiated inside the valley during the reign of King Jaya Prakash Malla.
