2 die, 2 missing and 3 injured in Shishapangma avalanche

Kathmandu: An avalanche that occured in Shishapangma on October 6, 2023 has killed two climbers, injured three Nepali climbers, and two are mising, according to Imagine Nepal and Seven Summit Treks.

Reputed climber Mingma G Sherpa who  got injured above Camp III was brought down to Camp II. Similarly, rescurers are struggling to bring Karma Karma Gyalzen Sherpa from the Camp III to the base camp. As many as 20 additional Tibetan guides have been immediately mobilized for the rescure and evacuation operations in the avanche area.

Likewise, a team of Sherpa climbers have also been moblized in this accident area for the rescue opeation, the sources said. Injured climber Kami Rita Sherpa has also been rescued and brought to camp II.

Chopper also has been used to rescue the injured climbers. At least two climbers are reported to have died and two others are missing in two separate incident of avalanche that swept away the climbing route on Shishapangma two days ago.

The dead bodies of two climbers -American woman climber Anna Gutu and her guide Mingmar Sherpa have been recovered from the incident site, while American woman climber Gina Marie and her guide Tenjen (Lama) are missing in the avalanche, according to the sources.
