Preparations for celebration of Chhath festival kicks off

Kathmandu: Madhesi people in the Terai region and around Kathmandu Valley have started preparing for the upcoming popular Chhat festival.

Preparations can be seen at 21 locations in Kathmandu at Gaurighat, Kamalpokhari, Bishnumati, Nakhkhu, Gahanapokhari, and Kupandol, while most of the banks of rivers, ponds, and lakes in the Terai region are decorated with special constructions to celebrate the Chhat rituals by using tents, tarpaulin, lights and statue of goddess Chhatimata.

This year Chhat festival begins on Friday during which the Sun God is worshipped with various offerings and arghav.

The legend of this festival is linked with the story of Mahabharat a Hindi epic in which five brothers known as Pandava along with Draupadi worship the Sun God for success.
