River Rafting test on Rapti river
Kathmandu: River rafting test conducted on Rapti River in Dang Deukhuri, the capital region of Lumbini Province, has been successful.
Municipal Chairman Yamnarayan Sharma Pokhrel informed that the test conducted by Gadhwa Rural Municipality and Rapti Rural Municipality for two days from last Friday was successful.
“We have studied the feasibility of rafting for tourism business operations in the water of Rapti River, the technicians have said that rafting can be carried out after testing,” said Pokhrel.
Rafting operations were studied and tested by a team led by Karnali Rafting and Adventure Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director and Director Devraj Jaishi.
Jaishi, who has studied and conducted rafting in almost all the rivers in the western part of Nepal, said that rafting can be conducted from Bhalubang to Sisahnia bridge of Rapti river for 9 months.
Rafting was tested in an area of about 15 km of Rapti River from Pulchok in Bhalubang to the Sisahnia-Mahdeva bridge on the border of Garhwa Rural Municipality, Rapti Rural Municipality and Shitganga Municipality. Jaisi said, ‘Rafting can be carried out for 9-10 months in the 15 km area from Pulchok to Mahdeva Bridge in Bhalubang, depending on the flow, depth, and side views of the Rapti River.’
During the test, Lumbini Province assembly Indrajit Chaudhary, Gardhwa Rural Municipality Chairman Yamnarayan Sharma Pokhrel, Rapti Rural Rural Chairman Prakash Bishta, and others went rafting.
Karnali Rafting and Adventure Pvt Ltd has already studied the rafting operations in the Rapti river area from Chakchke-Baddanda, Baddanda-Bhaluwang, Bhaluwang-Sisahnia and Sisahnia-Lamhi. Jaishi said that rafting will be tested in the area from Sisahnia-Mahdeva Bridge to West Lamhi on Rapti River on Sunday.
Prakash Bista, Chairman of Rapti Rural Municipality, said that the objective is to make the tribal people self-reliant through water tourism business and said that the Municipality will support that.
