Severe Flood in Dudhkoshi River Devastates Thame Village Following Snow Lake Burst
Kathmandu: A catastrophic flood swept through the Dudhkoshi River on Friday afternoon, causing extensive damage to Thame village, a renowned community known as the “village of mountain climbers” in Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Ward No. 5.
The disaster was triggered by the sudden bursting of the Thingbo snow lake, which released a torrent of water into the Dudhkoshi River. The floodwaters ravaged Thame village, leaving it in ruins. The village, home to many Sherpas and mountaineers, has a rich history intertwined with Nepal’s mountain climbing legacy.
Locals reported the event with urgency, sharing photos and videos on social media that captured the scale of the disaster. Those living in higher elevations were quick to warn residents in lower-lying areas, urging them to take immediate precautions as the floodwaters surged downstream.
