Phewatal-Sarangkot cable car almost completed

Pokhara: Phewatal-Sarangkot cable car is likely to be completed in near future according to Annapurna Cable Car that has taken the onus of completing this cable car project.

The cable car system is connecting Sedibagar, Pokhara to Sarangkot through a distance of 2.5 kilometers. The contract to build the bottom and top stations have been assigned to Chitwan Co-E Company.

It may be recalled that the same company had built the first cable car system of Nepal at Manakamana.

According to the Managing Director of Chitwan Co-E, Rajesh Babu Shrestha, the bottom and top stations will be constructed at a cost of R.s 40 Lakhs and the project will be completed within one and a half years. The system will be built at a cost of Rs. 1 Arab and 10 Crores.

The construction of the cable car towers and gondolas will be handled by Japan’s Nippon Cable. Nippon cable will design the system to accommodate 500 passengers in one hour, with one gondola being able to carry 8 passengers. 85% of the investment for the cable car project is coming from Nepali businesses while Japanese groups hold 15% of the investment.

Kalu Gurung, President of Annapurna Cable Car, said that it will be possible for people to visit Sarangkot by cable car within one and a half years.

The cable car rates for the domestic visitors will be Rs 600, and Rs 700 for the SAARC nationals and Rs 800 for others.

The cable project has benefited at least 250 workers and the process of building cable car system is almost complete.
