Army to launch cleanup drive to collect 35 tones of garbage
Kathmandu: Nepal army is going to launch a cleanup drive to collect 35 tones of garbage from the Everest region.
The army clean-up campaign of mountains comprising of 43 climbers and guides will be handed over the banner of the campaigns by the Chief the Army staff Purna Chandra Thapa.
The clean-up campaign team in partnership with various stakeholders is expected to bring in the dumped waste by climbers and trekkers on Everest, Lhotse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Dhawalagiri and is likely to conclude on World Environment Day, June 5.
The Ministry of Forests and Environment, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, the Nepal Tourism Board, concerned local governments, and some private agencies are also parts of the campaign. An estimated budget of Rs 125 million is anticipated to be spent on the cleanup campaign.
Nepal army has been embarking upon such campaigns in the past too.
