Nearly 150 feared dead as glacier burst in India
New Delhi: At least 150 Indians are reported to have died after a Himalayan glacier crashed into a dam on Sunday morning causing the forceful sweeping of villages downstream.
According to Om Prakash, Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand state, the exact number of deaths are not yet confirmed, yet 100 to 150 are feared dead in the burst of glaciers.
Observers said a wall of dust, rock, and water as an avalanche roared down a river valley that swept away everything including the workers of the nearby hydropower project.
The Indian government has already put its northern districts on high alert.
