Big hotels to close for 6 months and staff to get 12.5% salary

Kathmandu: Nepal’s big hotels are to be closed for another six months, and staffs are to get 12.5% salary during this time.

According to Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), the big hotels are to be closed from April 13 and beyond September 2020 as per the decision of the HAN meeting held under the chairperson Srijana Rana on Sunday to cope up with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The big hotels include Aloft, Raddision and Annapurna among others.

The government’s meeting of council of ministers held on April 26 had directed the hotels to provide 50% staff salaries immediately and arrange for payment of remaining 50% salary by taking bank loans on low interest rates.

The HAN also said those staff unwilling to comply with this 12.5% payment of basic salary will be obliged to resign from their posts and the staff will be curtailed as per the labor act 2074 clause 145.
