Nepal goes for weeklong nationwide lockdown

KATHMANDU:In a drastic move to take strict precautionary measures against COVID-19, Nepal government Monday decided to impose a weeklong nationwide lockdown with effect from Tuesday morning 6 a.m.

Government’s high-level meeting held under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwar Pokharel decided to clamp natinwide lockdown in order to curb the rapid spread of global Coronavirus pandemic.

The government sources said the decision to lock down the country comes after a teenage female student was detected with Coronavirus positive case in Kathmandu.

All transportation services including air services will remain closed and only the vehicles of security forces and health institutions will be permitted to ply on the roads during the lockdown period. The persons violating the nationwide lockdown will be penalized with a life sentence for six months said the sources.

The global death toll due to Coronarus has exceeded 15000 and more than three thousand hundred people have been infected with this lethal pathogen across 193 countries by now.
