Bicycle lane to connect nine lakes in Pokhara

Pokhara. Work has started to make beautiful Pokhara more organized and attractive.

The Pokhara Metropolitan City (KMC) has started necessary preparations for the construction of a cycle track connecting nine lakes of the city to establish it as a major tourist destination.

The metropolis has allocated Rs. 3 million for the construction of a cycle track in the current fiscal year for prosperous and beautiful Pokhara.

For this, a detailed study report (DPR) of the 183 km cycle track has been prepared and a cost of Rs. 350 million has been projected, said Balram Rijal, Chief Administrative Officer of KMC.

He said that the development of bicycle culture is necessary for observing the beauty of Pokhara with its natural and cultural diversity as 9 lakes of Pokhara are listed as Phewa, Rupa, Begnas, Kamalpokhari, Khaste, Neureni, Gunde, Dipang, Maidi, and Ramsar areas of international importance.

He said that the issue has been discussed among the stakeholders and in the first phase, the work of putting signs on the cycle lane has been completed.

He further added, “Cycling at an altitude of 700 to 1,500 meters gives a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains to the north and the Pokhara Valley to the south, watching birds flock to the lake coming from Siberia, and the flight and landing of international airport ships.”
